The Environment

As a furniture manufacturer we take environmental issues extremely seriously and the Sherborne Environment Policy is far-reaching in its positive impact.

Firstly, we ensure that all the timber purchased is PEFC-certified (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) and that all the MDF, chipboard and hardboard materials have full FSC certification (Forest Stewardship Council). This means that only fully sustainable, renewable sources are ever used.

Secondly, we have discontinued using moulded, plastic legs on three of our fireside ranges and use mainly eco-polythene bags, made from recycled plastic bottles, to protect our furniture in transit. All surplus polythene bags received by us are collected for reuse or recycling.

We also offer three ranges of eco-friendly Aquaclean fabrics which are partly made out of recycled materials – the Magellan,Oasis and Calypso ranges – see Aquaclean Fabrics or FABRICS/LEATHERS to see the colours and designs available.

Then several environmental initiatives have reduced our use of energy and therefore our carbon footprint in recent years:

Sherborne - The Environment

Wood Recycling

A wood recycling system provides much of the heating for our main factory and eliminates the need for landfill disposal of wood waste.

Sherborne - The Environment

Solar Panels

Solar panels installed in 2012 generate much of our own electricity and send surplus energy back to the National Grid.

Sherborne - The Environment

Energy Management

An Energy Management System reduces our overall usage of both gas and electricity in both factories.

Sherborne - The Environment

Low-energy Lighting

Low-energy lighting is used throughout to reduce our electricity usage even further.
